Let’s be Careful Out There
It is important for all of us in the design and construction industry to remember the ultimate requirement of jobsite safety. The Hard Rock Hotel project in New Orleans and the pedestrian bridge collapse at Florida International University in Miami are two examples of jobsite safety gone wrong and they should have, and could have, been avoided. The most tragic result is the significant loss of life in these accidents. The lives of the professionals in the design and construction industry, who are survivors in these projects, will never be the same. The hotel in New Orleans has become a class action lawsuit for the structural engineering firm, architects, concrete testing firm, and structural fabricator who have all become defendants.
